St. Nikolaus

St. Nikolaus Day on Wednesday was a success--mostly. Unfortunately, Thom had a stomach bug the night before and wasn’t up for immediately consuming the holiday bounty like his siblings.

The treats arrived in the boots the kids were told to leave outside our door the evening before. In addition to the shoe sweets, we were all surprised to find a mystery stocking that contained chocolates, apples, oranges, and walnuts. We assume one of our neighbors decided to join the fun.

The twins had a special guest at kindergarten Wednesday morning, and St. Nikolaus gave them filled stockings to open at home.  About half the children had decorative stockings like Americans hang for Santa, and the rest used their parents’ socks.

Stores sell both Santa and St. Nikolaus chocolates. The St. Nikolaus chocolates depict him in a bishop’s hat, and he carries his golden book. We're more familiar with the Santa's ensemble. Both are delicious.
