Bad Brakes

I’ve been trying to ride my bike a little less like a Kearney County country kid and a bit more like a Freiburg girl. It’s eat or be eaten out there in the intersections.

On Monday night, I was running late for German class and riding extra fast. The light was turning yellow, but I kept pedaling.  The car ahead of me had a similar course of action. Then, it stopped. Very quickly. So quick that I couldn’t stop in time, and I ran into it.

Besides, non-aggressive bike riding, another mark of a Kearney County country kid is saying, “I got hit by a deer” instead of “I hit a deer.”

Well, I felt a like a little bit like a deer after my collision. Luckily, no need for the dead wagon.

The driver got out of his car, and I replied to his incomprehensible German, “Alles gut,” and walked my bike the last block to class.
