I spent the day absorbing heat and swimming--two of my favorite activities.
On the way to Thom's game, the littles and I saw our first German ice cream truck. It is, unsurprisingly, hilarious. A man was driving through a neighborhood with his left hand out the window ringing a big bell. My kids had already gotten eis earlier so we didn't experience the magic ourselves, but judging from the other children chasing the truck, it must be good.
Another walk over the blue bridge this afternoon. Usually on nice days, we see people sitting on top of the beams. Thankfully, our little climbers haven't thought to follow suit yet.
Vinnie has turned into quite the Tom Sawyer and consistently convinces one of her brothers that pulling her school bag is so fun. We joined some families after church today for an outing to the Mundenhof. It’s an animal park on the edge of town with some great playgrounds in addition to the creatures.
Vinnie and I went to visit old Princeton friends that now live about two and a half hours away in Tübingen. We met each other in a Music Together class in 2011 and had many overlapping activities for years. It was a beautiful day and great to catch up. All six of us enjoyed having Pippi at the supper table with us these last couple weeks.
It was extra fun to read aloud this Oxford University Press edition. It is illustrated by Lauren Child of Charlie and Lola fame. The kids also learned new UK English translations like the burglar’s torch and Pippi’s hair being in plaits. Lee loves to play stick ball.
He finds two sticks--one long, one short. He tosses the smaller one and swings the other. Whenever he makes contact, he turns into Aaron Judge and runs the bases--always a home run. |
